Traumatic Brain Injury changes your life in an instant, and has an immediate and lasting impact on your family members, friends and everyone around you. Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) is an injury to the brain as a result of a blow to the skull most frequently caused from motor vehicle accidents or falls.

Here at Therapies 4 Kids, we talk to parents everday who experience the ups and downs of having a special needs child. My son Lucas has brain damage from Brain Bleeds, Hydrocephalus and PVL caused by a traumatic birth. It was Lucas who taught me that I had to expect more from him and for him and at Therapies 4 Kids we believe that all children can and will do more if given the chance.

The number one tool we have is "TIME". We have 4 hours of it everday (5 if you include speech) to work with your child / one on one with a licensed Therapist who is trained and dedicated in every aspect of your child's specifically created program.

The number two tool we have is the Universal Exercise Units - Ways to teach your child to isolate their muscle groups and gain core strength and to teach balance, coordination and weight bearing skills.

The third tool is the "Suit" - The suit is a tool which we use to integrate our entire program. It helps to realign the skeleton system of the child so the child learns new skills in the correct alignment.

The Statistics are Frightening

According to the Brain Injury Association of America, more than 1 million children in the U.S. sustain brain injuries each year , of whom 250,000 are admitted to hospitals and survive, and 30,000 are permanently disabled. Motor vehicle crashes account for 50% of all TBIs and the leading cause of TBI resulting in hospitalization.

What about a cure?

Sadly, there is no cure for a brain injury. Recovering from a brain injury relies on the brain’s plasticity, the brain’s ability for other areas of the brain to take over the functions for the damaged areas, and on hard work from the patient and the rehabilitation team to strengthen the remaining abilities to maximize functionality.
